Anti-nicotine law in USA

World

On 22nd june Barrack Obama signed anti-nicotine law. As he said “It will protect lives of American people. It will force tobacco companies to admit that their products are harmful and can cause death. But mostly it is going to protect youngsters who don’t know how dangerous tobacco products are.”. It reminds me socialist times and impudent market regulations. As we all know from history no regulations were effective or good for the economy.

What would this law change? It gives Food and Drug Administration nearly unlimited power over the tobacco market. It would have even right to determine maximum permissible content of nicotine in cigarette. This right would also ban all colourful tobacco advertisements and would force producers to place warning texts about nicotine on every package. The same law works in Poland and some other countries and as we all know nobody cares about them. Nowadays everybody knows that cigarettes are dangerous, even small children.

American government banned also using in cigarettes’ names words like “light” because supposedly they suggest harmlessness. The same would happen with gustatory cigarettes, which as government says are very popular among juveniles. So much care about the consumer! It is worth mentioning that it would need prize raises to maintenance Food and Drug Administration.

In my opinion this is another wrong decision of Barrack Obama’s administration. It is a result of socialist thinking that state control can do anything good. It would cause only corruption and would make it much harder to promote new tobacco brand.
